Dear forum members, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice regarding value for money car hire. We usually fly into Murcia but car hire is just so expensive - a recent trip cost us £800 plus. !!!

I had a bad experience with Interrent(Murcia) in September but have just returned and used EDI (Murcia)which someone recommended, yes it was more expensive than the others but the absolute wonderful thing is there was no hard sell of excess insurance (I have now taken out an annual policy anyway). I paid when I collected the car, just for the rental.  I was met outside with my name on a card, everything was explained to me, the youing lady was very pleasant, English (married to Spaniard) so I was really delighted and would recommend them and definitely going to use them again. My car was petrol Fiat Panda and cost me  just under £130 for 8 days. I think some would say that was expensive however for me compared to what I had experienced in September it was worth the extra !

Good Luck

Hi PJ, when flying in to Murcia - which we usually do now as the flight schedules are better for us than Almeria - we always use Centauro's Premium plan. It is more expensive than their cheaper daily plans but the advantages are that they don't block off any money from your card, they don't hassle you to take out extra insurance as the plan comes with full insurance and no excess, although we do have excess cover as we rent from Avis elsewhere, we sometimes get upgrades, getting the car and returning it is quicker than with the other plans. They do take a €70 payment for fuel but if you return the car full then this gets refunded within a day  - don't pay it in sterling if you can help it - we use our local bank account - or it might be affected by exchange rate fluctuations.

Centauro are based off the airport but it's only a 5 minute shuttle bus journey.

The petrol station for refilling is 500 metres beyond Centauro on a roundabout and junction that I hate and manage to get wrong somehow every time!

We have just hired a car for 3 weeks from firefly for euro 320 at Murcia airport. No deposit fully insured full fuel but did it direct not through any rental agency.  If you want the em let me know.  Regards Tina
