For the past 12 months I’ve seemed advise for my residency to Spain. Unfortunately I was not able to join my wife at our new home when Spain went into lockdown,so I miss out on residency. But my wife fortunately gained hers before bexit. My first attempt to get residency was to go self employed, this cost me 90euros per month plus 60 euros for accountants fee . After 3 months I was refused my residency. This advise was from the solicitor in turre called Monica. We then went to another solicitor in turre which told us to go to register in Vera with marriage certificate and birth certificate and then paperwork will be sent to Madrid and once they approve of our marriage I can join my wife. Unfortunately not, wrong advise again. We know this now because we have now got in touch with a British company based in Spain.Basically all me and my wife had to do was take our certificates to Malaga and the process would have been done on the day. We now have to ask for our certificates to be returned, but this could take up to 2 years. So please don’t use Spainish solicitors as none of them know what is right or wrong since bexit . Especially the ones in turre

Malaga? Residency has to be applied for in the province that you live.

We have be told Malaga is the register for British nationals to give proof of marriage. Madrid is where spainish people who got married outside Europe take there certificate to be recognised in Spain. So this is where we have gone wrong the bad advice.

Just to add to this, don't use Solicitors that you use for house purchase or whatever - they just have no idea what's going on.  If you do want to use someone in Spain, I can highly recommend Mundi Abogados at Las Buganvillas.

I have no connection with them, only that I know they specialise in migration work and talk to Extranjeria on a daily basis, so are bang up to date with whatever is new and developing

And further to your having to register your marriage in Malaga ... I provided my proof of marriage in Almeria at the Oficina de Extranjeria there.  I was married in Gibraltar.  The wedding certificate had to be an apostilled full certificate, and it had to be translated by a Spanish approved translator (I originally had it done by a Spanish translator in Gibraltar, who was registered as an official translator in Spain, but because she worked in Gibraltar, they wouldn't accept it)

Having to go outside your province of residence to prove you are married is a new one on me and I would urge you to check that again with a trusted and reliable source.  Sorry, but some of the British companies have as little clue as the Spanish solicitors because they just cannot keep up with the regular changes.

We got married in the uk last June, had to take our Apostled Marriage certificate to Almeria as we live near Albox. Not come across this Malaga business before. Hope it works out.

It’s because we were married in Mauritius, that we have to go to Malaga. I would have preferred the 3 hour drive , rather than a 2 year wait with Madrid!
