Hello again. I have another question about getting residencia. I have a UK passport and my husband has an Irish passport, we got  married in the UK. We are getting mixed message about having to register our marriage certificate in Spain which can take up to a year to do before I can get residencia. We know we have to have it officially translated and apostilled. Can anyone  help please,

Hi you need an apostilled marriage certificate dated within 3 months of your application, your solicitor will confirm it is legal and it doesn't need to be translated, my wife has just done hers with no problems.

Hi, thank you for that. Did you have to register the marriage certificate at the registro civil which takes a year to confirm? We was advance to do that.

As long as the marriage certificate is in a format recognised by Spain, it will not need to be registered.  As already advised, it will need to be apostilled though.

as to whether translation is required ... that depends entirely on which oficial you get on the day, I'm afraid.  I was told I needed mine apostilled AND translated.  I was married in Gibraltar, and the translation was done by a certified Spanish Translator who worked in Gibraltar (but registered and recognised in Spain) and Extranjeria subsequently refused to accept it as it was "Translated in Gibraltar".  On another day, with another official, it would have sailed through.  As it was, my application got put back four weeks while I had to have it Translated by a registered translator based in Spain .... so as to whether translation is required, it really depends on which official you get and how they feel on the day ...  Welcome to Spain :-D
