As long as the marriage certificate is in a format recognised by Spain, it will not need to be registered. As already advised, it will need to be apostilled though.
as to whether translation is required ... that depends entirely on which oficial you get on the day, I'm afraid. I was told I needed mine apostilled AND translated. I was married in Gibraltar, and the translation was done by a certified Spanish Translator who worked in Gibraltar (but registered and recognised in Spain) and Extranjeria subsequently refused to accept it as it was "Translated in Gibraltar". On another day, with another official, it would have sailed through. As it was, my application got put back four weeks while I had to have it Translated by a registered translator based in Spain .... so as to whether translation is required, it really depends on which official you get and how they feel on the day ...
