Please be careful.  They are very dangerous for dogs and other pets:

Hi

Ussually decend to ground in spring. As the name says they travel in a line, any disturbance and they fire very fine hairs which stick to dogs faces or human skin.  Remove and burn asap.

Hi,

Our trees in the forestry are loaded every year but gratefully they never get as far as the cottage. A poster on here some months back was actually removing his pines for this very reason.

Thanks Bob.It seems as though it is only the one type of fir that they infest,I dont really want to cut the one near the house down as it gives good shade at certain times of the day. Will have to keep an eye on it

Thanks

I was advised to spray the cotton ball in hairspray and set fire to it

Please be very careful if the nest is near the house. We know of a lady who nearly died after the hairs fell on her while she was eating under the tree.
