Hello all, can you help us decide please, the pros and cons etc. We own a house here in san juan since Jan 2017 and have been back and forth as per allowed. Now that brexit has made things difficult we have choices to make whether to take up residencia, TIE or to remain non residents, what are costs involved? Can some one also recommend who to use in order to proceed and also who not to use. Thank you

your first choice is where are you going to be a resident and live and pay your taxes. then you'll need to make the next move.

I’ll also weigh in - I was the author of two of the threads Truenudist posted. First off, NIE ... NIE is just a financial number, required for virtually every transaction here. Having an NIE does not confer residence.
Without residence, you may only stay 90 days in any 180 day period. i.e. once you have spent 90 days here, you have to leave the entire Schengen zone for an equivalent period.
So if you want to spend longer than 90 days here, you have to become a resident. As if 6 July, that means applying under the “old” Residencia system, but getting one of the new TIEs - Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero : Foreigners Identity Card, a plastic biometric card with your photo.
So first question is .... how long do you want to spend here at one time? That will dictate what you need to do.
