Hi

I am 59 years old and have just got divorced.

I have wanted to live in Spain most of my life.

I have about £150K to spend can anyone advise me on the best places/towns to live near Almeria.

Want to be close to shops, bars, beaches and restaurants and close to a good bus links

Dont want to be in the middle of it though.

Any advice, much appreciated.

Thank you

Ian

I assume you are aware that you will only be able to stay for 90 days in 180 as a third country national.

Lots has changed since brexit, there is plenty of information on the forum which might be useful to look at.  It may ultimately shape your plans, sadly freedom of movement is no longer for British passport holders.

Sorry if it sounds negative, hope you can realise your dream.  Regards Karen

Yes i am aware of the new rules since Brexit.

However you can apply for a non lucrative residency permit should you wish to stay longer. ( not working )

The process is a little more long winded but certainly not insurmountable as some people suggest.

At some stage Spain will hopefully recriprocate on the arrangement that Spanish nationals have to come to the UK.

Up to a few weeks ago I'd have been saying "Ian, you're too old and buying property in Spain ain't for you" (Please don't be offended, I'm 10 years older than you). But, I know people even older than me having recently split with their spouse/partner buying in Mojacar Playa and they appear to be making the purchase into a good "life" investment for the rest of their days.

You've just been through a divorce and all such experiences take their toll. I recommend (as soon as travel restrictions are lifted) book an apartment anywhere on the coast (Carboneras, Mojacar Playa, Garrucha, Vera Playa, Roquetas) for several weeks.  Enjoy yourself, keep your ears and eyes open, walk, talk and enjoy. These could be the happiest days of your life. During these weeks you'll discover not only is purchasing property for you but if Spain is for you.

Incidentally from November to April you can rent well located property at a cheaper rate than you expect. You can expect to pay €750 per month ("upper" end) and perhaps €350 per month ("lower" end).

Funnily enough, that's exactly what I intend to do ! Thank you for your thoughts.
