Well I've booked an apartment  Al Baida Complex Avenida De Las Gaviotas Playa Serena Roquetas De Mar Almeria 04740 so I hope I haven't made a mistake, can always cancel if you think I have but it doesn't look like too bad an area on the map 🤷‍♀️

I think you will be perfectly ok . I wish you well . Please keep us on the forum how it works please . I enjoyed my few years in Roquetas but that was holidaying and staying in the playa Linda or with my children next door in the Sol . Bars like Colis , the London tavern and fluffy duck . Find now as a quiet old grandad mojacar playa is perfect for me . Enjoy Devo.

The only people concentrating on maps in Europe at the moment are Selensky and Putin. Maps are colourful and flat and all the map reader sees are roads and sea. Rental agents send on pics of whatever they're renting and they are usually taken with the best interests of the person hiring out the place.

I'm not going to try convince you to look at Mojacar for your stay as your mind is already made up and best of luck in Roquetas. Ask questions of the place you're renting. If you feel a fudge is in play, back out of the deal. You'll be in a place for a few weeks. Do you have a sea view? Is there a high blank wall between you and the sea and mountains which is blocking your view? Is the electricity on a coin meter? Is there high-fibre internet? Are all costs within the quoted figure? Are there any extras of any description?

I'm nearly having a heart attack at "Fulltime's" buying skills now.

Lol don't have a heart attack we are fully aware of what we are paying for and for a really large wrap around terrace with sun all day and many 5 star reviews including electricity heating internet smart TV sky sport BT sport. View of the pool. Can't afford a sea view lol. I'm sure we will be fine, all we want is a warmer climate than the UK for 6 weeks which it will be.

Also we don't want anywhere that's hilly which is why we chose Roquetas instead of our usual beautiful Nerja, getting too old.

It all depends on what you want.  It's really very summer holiday orientated zone too far to walk far to Roquetas centre where there are also some lovely sandy beaches very close by and much more life in the winter.

I used to have a small apartment near the Castillo Santa Ana and in the winter we rarely went to the hotel area where you have booked except for the odd Chinese meal. It seemed to.me to have a run down look about it particularly after the Covid which had a disastrous effect on many coastal resorts And generally speaking the big hotels are closed. The nicest area to live in or rent in if you like to be close to the beach seemed to me to be area near  the Playa de la Romanilla and it's  all very flat, unlike certain areas en Mojacar.or Aguadulce.

I am sure you will be fine . It’s like you say it’s mainly about the weather . Put your feet up and crack open a nice bottle of wine . Do let us know how you get on .

More serious post from me coming up:-

1. If an apartment in Roquetas is dearer than one in Nerja, it must be luxurious and top-of-the-range (or the one in Nerja was bottom of the range, just saying!). Tread carefully on rent anywhere. Check everything again.

2. If you had been using Roquetas in previous years and deciding between Nerja and Mojacar Playa the vested interests in Nerja would be hammering away and being pretty economic with the truth. (Many threads on TripAdvisor prove this).

3. I feel your mind is fully made up and Roquetas is your winner (and fair enough!) - I'm not going to try to change  your mind. I've vested interests in Mojacar but I would always be 100% truthful about the resort (see my previous posts, even the cynical ones).

4. Rental charges in Nerja are usually very expensive (hence the vested interests brigade who moan vehemently about a plastic advertising sign outside of some "cherished" eatery probably touting fish 'n' chips like grandma makes). Use a good well located 2 bedroom apartment in Mojacar Playa as a price guide which would rent for €900 pm (includes electricity, water, refuse, cleaning, internet and no extras).

5. Don't get screwed wherever you are renting; that would do no good to anybody. We used to let our apartment through a rental agency in Mojacar which I had reason to cease. When I queued to collect our keys I overhead a discussion between the agent and an elderly couple. He screwed them with deposit against dis, dat, dother and administration fees that Quentin Tarantino couldn't dream up. My conscience was playing games with me and I sought the couple when I had collected the keys. I found them drinking coffee in a nearby café and informed them that they were being screwed from a height and I felt deflated when they dismissed me as a crank.

6. Enjoy Roquetas and the warm winds that blow in its beaches. Take in the sun, climate, culture, etc and enjoy. And please come back and share with us.

wow - there's always one local know all !

This remark from Matthew hit the nail on the head.  Nerja is indeed normally far more expensive than Roquetas for rental off season and for buying property too.

No, it's  not all negative either.  If you want a complex with a pool that's  open all year round, some complexes do have that facility in the Urbanization but not so in other more residential complexes nearer the centre where pools may only be open from mid June up to mid September.  This needs checking on because not every complex  wants to have to pay a lifeguard all year round, now that it is obligatory to have one.

One other point is to make sure you have a lift if you are not keen on climbing stairs.  Ours had two for each block which was great because  we were on the 5th floor.

Yep , Atalayones has three pools open all year but only lifeguards thru high season . There a two lifts on the long block and one in shady short blocks . It’s quite a steep climb up from the seafront tho and made me puff a bit especially if carrying shopping or water . I would sometimes get bus to parque and shop then taxi back for major shop or good friends would invite to go with them in the car . Like I say , wish you well
