I understand that:

1. The 180 period begins as soon as you arrive in a Schengen country (after the UK left)

2. One can stay for 90 days during the 180 day period that follows

So far, I can follow the logic (I’d usually say ‘makes sense’ but none of this makes sense)

But the dates in the apparently official calculator don’t tally.

We were in Schengen (Mojácar) for September and half of October. Then 7 days in January and 11 in February. We may need to be out there whilst the builders demolish substantial parts of UK home from May.

All the online calculators seem to do is look if the start and end date are less/more than 180 days apart; add up the duration of stay and subtract from 90/180 respectively.

As Dario says:

1. If you don’t want to rely on a calculator just count from the current day back 180 days.
2. In those 180 days, how many days have you spent in Schengen?  That will then tell you how many you have left.

Thanks both

I thought the official looking calculator at ec.europa.eu (or similar) looked like something from Lotus123 on a ZX Spectrum but that’s just my fear re being banned for dodgy data.

As I suspected there’s at least one app - these are a couple of free ones from the Apple Store - if you have Android, search for these in the Google Play store, I’ll pretty much guarantee they’ll be in both:
