you have to be careful though not to overload your circuit as too many high powered items will throw your fuses.

It's possible that when you purchased or agreed to rent your new home in Spain the real estate agent or solicitor "signed" you up for electricity, water, refuse services. They get a few bob commission for this. It is probably arranged that you pay your utility bills through your Spanish bank account also.

If you haven't been supplied with PIN numbers it's likely you'll never see the actual utility bill so you might have to contact your provider which doesn't guarantee that you'll receive the bill either - trust me! Your Spanish bank transaction sheet will show the deductions and for which utility though.

Enjoy Spain. You're embarking on an adventure that most enjoy.

For the record we bought all our electrical appliances in Spain and everything was connected up including washing machine by the seller (Lopez-Fernandez). It might be worth doing calculation of transit charges against buying appliances (just throwing that in). Get used to the new trip-switch situation in your new home. It takes some time to get used to. Nothing worse than having your freezer thaw out while you're sleeping - it happens to everybody once!

Ok Matthew

Thanks for this , My brother lives in Lanzarote and he has basically said the same,we’re very much in the early stages of our purchase and haven’t as yet got our bank account but it is being arranged which has prompted my question, will look into transit costs as opposed to buying locally, thanks for the tip.

Good Clive. If you haven't done so arrange your own NIE number asap in the UK ( ring the Embassy of Spain and make an appointment). It'll cost you about £7.00 and much cheaper than having an abogado do it for you later.
