My husband and I are in our late sixties and are planning to retire to the Mojacar area although have not visited yet. Will be looking for a house in Spting next year. I am worried about healthcare as I have a pacemaker which needs checking now and again. Does an S1 cover healthcare for pensioners as well as medication? I am not clear on this point. Could any member fill me in in life for the older pensioner!!!!!!! Thank you. Vanessa

once you have registered your S1 and are in the Spanish health system then you are covered for all health problems so your pace maker will be covered.  In Mojacar the health centre is very good and they have dedicated nurses for certain things. You do need a knowledge of Spanish but there are lots of good interpreters available.

My wife has a pace maker (which was fitted when we lived in France) and she is on the Spanish NHS. She has  check ups with doctor, and also the cardiologiist at the Huercal Overa hospital. You just tell the doctor at the local health centre (Urgencia) and ask for regular check ups.
