Hi, we moved to Spain late last year and are looking to apply for residencia. As we both took early retirement and are not entitled to an S1 we will have to take private insurance for ourselves. We wondered though, with our son being 13 and in mainstream Spanish education whether he qualified for free state care the same as in the UK or if he would have to be insured privately along with us. Ideally we'd prefer the convenio especial route, but we need residencia for a year before we qualify. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Hi Tina,

I am interested in any replies as we need to do the same apply for resident status. I hear so many different stories not sure what is genuine. I do have an email for English speaking solicitor that does it all if that will help you? I figured that’s the best option but just reading your post that you have been here a year already? We have been here a week.

Thanks. If you could PM the details it would Ben appreciated. Thanks very much. We have been told one thing by someone and have found conflicting information elsewhere!

Good luck and always best to get the right advice than listening to very different scare stories. That has certainly been our experience since arrival in Spain! Good luck with it all. Nola x
