Has anyone had a problem with there dog being stung or bitten on hind leg?

We have a cross golden retriever, his hind leg is very swollen and the local vet had to cut and drain out the fluid. There were two marks about 30mm apart and she was not sure what or if something had bitten him. It could have been a snake but she has never treated a dog with a snake bite before.

Anybody know of any dog been bitten by a snake and had treatment before?

Hi  I would think it is more likely a centapede than a snake bite, nasty little things

No, I haven't but it is possible.  The snakes in this area don't have venom expulsing front teeth but they do have non-venom expulsing back teeth.  This means that it isn't  so easy to be bitten and large dogs usually don't attack snakes although a terrier might try.

I wonder if the bite might be a from a centipede?  Once I was bitten by one in the night on my leg.  It came in through the window probably due to the fact that we had been pulling up weeds that day and the earth was turned over.  There were two marks on my leg and it hurt like hell!  Catching the thing had us up all night as they are very fast. 😩

Agree with the other comments. I would think it very unlikely to be a snake bite as if the marks are 30mm apart it would have to be a very big snake to have fangs that far apart.

I agree with the centipede theory over a snake bite too,I also got bitten and yes it did hurt like hell, horrible things!!

We get a lot of snakes come through here and we have dogs, never had a dog bitten by a snake, thankfully!

Also agree that the snake would have to be rather large to have a bite like that!!
