Hi I have seen a jet black snake about 1 meter long in the garden would anyone know if its poisonous. I tend to leave it alone and it disappears after about 10 minutes, once found one dead in the pool. I am in Mojacar Playa area. Many thanks if anyone has some information

Your description (large, blackish) fits that of the Montpellier snake. It is venomous but its fangs are, apparently, located far back in the mouth so are unlikely to puncture human skin .

Many thanks for your reply I have been offline so sorry for the delay but after looking this up online I think you are right and now my wife can rest a bit easer She was all up for buying a airgun and getting me to act as the sentery
