My wife and I are considering buying a property in Lubrin and intend living in that area 6months of the year , with the other half spent in our native northern ireland , we currently both hold European health cards , however we are not sure how this works after Brexit , recently I suffered ill health , but am well on the road to recovery , would it be prudent to take out private insurance on top of out European health card , and would it be advisable to apply for dual passport , as we can have both an irish and british passport with our situation in Northern Ireland

unless you are Irish with passports you will not be able to spend 6  months here in Spain after Brexit as you will only be able to stay here for 90 days in the calendar year if you are here longer you will become a resident and tax payer in Spain.  you will need health insurance to cover you for any health problems the EHIC cards will no longer be valid after Brexit.

Even with Irish passports, without Residencia you are limited to 90 days in any 180 day period.  WITH Irish passports though, Brexit will not affect you as you continue to be an EU citizen and able to obtain Residencia, which will allow you longer than 90 days.  Please remember though if you take Residencia, you are obliged to spend 183 days a year in Spain, pay residents tax and convert driving licences to Spanish licences.

If you stay with British passports, unless you have very well paying jobs and can converse in Spanish, you are unlikely to qualify for residency under TIE (general immigration regime)

So get Irish passports for sure, and consider Residencia if you want to spend longer than 90 days here.
