Hi We are looking to relocate from The Canaries where we have lived for 25years to Costa Almeria and are wondering if we can still get the Spanish Health cover that we have had in the canaries? Any information greatly appreciated. We are a mixed bag of pensioners and self employed.

Thanks

Matthew

Hi June, I can’t answer your question regarding transfer of Health Insurance. Sorry!

I am intrigued by a decision to move from Canaries to the mainland though and after 25 years. When we bought in Mojacar Playa one of the main drivers in my decision making was the amount of people who had worked in Costa del Sol who chose Costa Almeria as their final move for retirement.

Hi Matthew

We feel that the area will offer us more options, we have a 15 year old who finds the canaries too small and restricting. The canaries are lovely islands to live on but you are fairly isolated in many ways, shopping, access to further afield travel, everything seems to go thru the peninsula first. So we are looking for a good place to settle for our forever home.

Ask at the local health centre if you are on the  social services otherwise you'll have to seek the private clinics who will tell you whether you can use your private health insurance with them.  After 25 years i would imagine you might have a social security number though.
