Your very welcome, Patsy, good luck with your decision. It a hard one to make, But I agree we are also the wrong side of 60, and there are times, health wise when I think I wish I was back in the UK. Like at the moment, trying to get my GP to take the fact that I have a lump in my breast serious ...

...has been hard work. So much so I am having to got private. Stay safe

Thank you, all your comments have been extremely helpful and we have made our minds up, to stay in the UK.  Husband is useless at languages and me I have "chemo" brain.  We therefore think that if either of us were ever to land in hospital, it would probably be a miserable experience and fraught with complications.  Thank you everyone for helping us to reach this decision.  Stay well.

Total and utter BS, nonsense and a disgraceful comment for your friend to make.

Please can you tell your friend Spain is NOT a third world country.

Family is encouraged to help with general care like to and from the toilet or helping a person eat BUT they do care for you a million times better than the UK. Please don’t tell that to many people over there as we have enough idiots coming here slagging the system off.

Wow bit sweeping that jack , million times better . I’ve had the misfortune to be taken ill both in Spain and here in uk . In Huercal I was treated ok and needed a scan but wouldn’t say anything better or worse than any other hospital I’ve been in . My fault I couldn’t speak Spanish so some lonely moments , thank goodness for Spanish speaking friends . In the uk I’ve had cancer treatment and it’s been second to none . The Macmillan follow up is brilliant . I’ve used A&E quite a few times as farm and building work goes hand and hand with injuries . Why do expats still need to slag off the uk . Amazes me

I agree re medical treatment here.  I've lived in quite a few countries and nowhere is perfect.  I had a rare/base of brain cancer in 2005, and was treated at The Royal Marsden, there had been no cases here in the UK at that time and only 6 in the USA.  I had surgery, rads and chemo and I cannot fault the care and treatment.  And the best part of all,  I was CURED.  I have gone for regular check ups ever since.

Brilliant . We are very fortunate to have our health service in both of the countries. Just to knock the uk version is beyond me . It’s a common theme I’m afraid tho . Hope everything goes well with you and your plans .
