I have recently completed writing a children's book which requires about a dozen illustrations.  The story is about two birds - a Canary and a Sparrow who undertake a journey to the Canary Islands.  Being realistic, this venture is unlikely to make money but any profits would be shared.  I have had articles published but this is my first attempt at a book aimed at 6-9 year olds.  Drop me a line for more information.

Thank you.

My answer has to be dunno!  I have received a couple of enquiries to which I have replied but then...... nothing.

So, perhaps I could give you a little information.  I am a retired wine merchant who, since ceasing work, have contributed articles to various magazines.  However, this is my first attempt at a children's book.  The story is about two birds, a Canary and a Sparrow who undertake a journey to the Canary Islands.  Children obviously require stories to be illustrated in order to keep their attention and I reckon about a dozen drawings are required.  I would like fairly life-like pics (NOT of the tweetie-pie variety).

Initially I approached four UK art colleges as I thought that such a venture could be useful to a student who could include such work in their portfolio which might help with future employment.  Sadly I did not even receive replies  Hey-ho.

I realise that I am unlikely to make a profit from the book but am prepared to pay a modest "retainer" and would share any profits should it be a success.

Perhaps you could let me know if the above is of interest

Kind regards

Bill

Good afternoon Jack,

Allow me to give some examples of the illustrations required:

1)  The Canary in a cage with a sad expression.  Background of a typical living room.

2)  The Canary in a garden sitting on a bird bath.

3)  Ditto but with the Sparrow.

4)  Canary and Sparrow sitting in a nest.  Background of leaves/twigs.

5)  The two birds in a barn with an Owl.  Background of dusty shelves/books etc.  The owl looks serious and is peering over spectacles.

6)  The two birds at an airport.

7)  Ditto.  Sitting on a suitcase with 'plane behind them.

8)  Inside the aircraft hold looking worried.  Dark background.

9)  Another airport scene but sunny and cheerful.

10)  The birds on a branch with a sunny, holiday scene behind them.

I hope this gives you some idea of what is required.  Nothing is set in stone and any suggestions/comments are welcome.

Kind regards

Bill

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Good morning Jack

There is no need to do more than one or two rough drawings - I am sure I will be able to see if we are of a like mind.

I will not be here (Garrucha) in August.  I am off to Blighty on the 27th June and do not return until the 28th August.

Kind regards

Bill

Sorry - Blighty is an old naval term for England.

Good morning Jack,

Apologies for slow replies - I have my brother and his wife staying with me this week and I  rarely get time to log in.

If it is not too much trouble, a colour version would be goo.  I am more concerned about getting expressions on the faces - sadness, happiness, excitement etc.  Do you think that is possible?

Regards

Bill
