Don't forget to check out San Juan de Los Terreros where there are beautiful beaches, good bars and restaurants, supermarkets etc and plenty of English speakers. Los Loos is also close by and also has expats there.  They both offer places to rent and have good access to other areas.

Hi Maggie, thanks for that, we have already started looking at the area and it looks great. I think we will base ourselves there when we come over to explore. Can you recommend any holiday and/or long term letting agents in the area?

Hello all,

A new member here and to Costa de Almeria. I am very impressed with this forum and the quality of its contributors and hope you can help with a bit of advice. We are semi-retired and looking to spend some time away from the cold here in the UK, possibly making it permanent on an NLV once f...

...ully retired in a couple of years. Based on our thoughts and what we have read on the forum the plan is to eventually utilise some or all our 90 days to rent somewhere to test the water and see what and where our best option is. We like the idea of living by the coast but also like the idea of more bang for your buck being a bit further inland and enjoying more peace and quiet. We are not too concerned about being in a large ex-pat community but also see the advantages, so are open minded about our options.

We are looking to come over in the next couple of months to do our first bit of research and were looking at the Vera Playa, La Marinas, Garrucha and Palomares areas and we also like the San Juan De Los Terreros region any information/advice on these areas would be appreciated. We understand that some of these are more predominantly Spanish areas and although our Spanish is very basic at the moment, I do speak the Spanish words I know fluently, but my ears only seem to work in English, hopefully a bit of effort and experience will train my ears a bit more.

We would be extremely grateful for recommendations on property rental companies and any other particular areas we should consider.

If you can think of anything else that would be of use please let us know.

Many thanks!!

Do add Los Gallardos to your list..... so much more bung for your buck.... especially on the Huerta Nueva development..... very friendly with Spanish... .English... .Belgium.... French and German to mention a few. 10 mins from  Mojacar. 2 busses each way daily....Try talking to Simon Cole at Coles in Turre.... very knowledgeable around a large area. Just a small tip.... visit any properties twice....once with the agent, and then drive around by yourselves and listen out for dogs which might have been kept quiet when an agent was around. We discovered when we were buying that the neighbour had kept his yapping dog quiet for her sale to go smooth!

I found Coles pretty useless... They came and did a preliminary look at my place which I was selling,a guy came with a dictaphone and went and described every room in the house into it.He said that a photographer would then come and take professional photos of the house.Well that must have been some six months ago and no one ever came here ever again.I called them two or three times and they still didn't come, even went into their office and still nothing.Anyway the house eventually got sold using Zar 2010 in Garrucha who I can personally recommend...

Gosh how different opinions can be..... bought from them and also viewed with them when we were wanting to move to another larger villa but they did not have what we were looking for. When we first bought in Los Gallardos Simon Cole found us several trades we needed as well. Brilliant service..... maybe they were not sure your property was in a decent state to sell? Should have told you though...6 months is a long time to sit there and not sell? I do know one of the salesmen Simon had left.... Was it Simon himself? Doubt it.....

Hi Sue, Thanks for the information. Do you have a property reference so we can have a look, there are so many on choice rentals. Thanks again.
