But the point is that that if there are only a handful of infections, even if the R rate is over one, there are means to stamp on it. The R rate is absolutely critical once the infection spreads but at very low levels it’s less of an issue. Remember when Covid hit no one had a clue how to...

... control it - now we understand it more so can more easily , through testing and tracking and tracing, control it. That is why I am less fearful than some. But I admit I’m no expert!
But your R number is directly linked to number of infections - you can’t have an R = 1 and only a handful of infections .... it’s not an absolute - it’s a calculated variable using data - such as the number of people dying, admitted to hospital or testing positive for the virus - it allows you to estimate how easily the virus is spreading.
Generally this will only give a picture of what the R number was two to three weeks ago.
If your R is 1 or higher, then the virus is spreading exponentially.

Interesting that; I was under the impression that when State of Alarm ends, authority to lockdown a region devolves to regional authorities. With new infections in Madrid, I dread the coming of the Madrileños that live around us in the summer ... that being said, whilst our pool is open here, it’s on a strict roster - only certain blocks allowed at certain times
Hi Andymac1951, I think I pointed out some time ago that your views are changing (and you are entitled to change or not to change as you see fit) but I think you're now pulling favourably with us (rather than against us) for some time. Welcome aboard.
Some of the comments from facebook/TripAdvisor:- Like it or lump it I'm going to Spain asap. Spain needs our money. If Mr Johnson says we can travel, then it's safe to travel. We own a flat in Spain so we are entitled to go to Spain. The R number doesn't matter. Our Covid deaths are far less than those of most countries in Europe. I feel safer in Spain. Many of our Covid-19 deaths are not Covid related.
Then the creepiest comment:- Those expats in Spain feel they are superior beings by advising us to remain in the UK, (sarcastically) I'm going to pin medals on those superior beings.
These are not exact words used, but a paraphrased summary by me. If you wish to check up on what I posted, please feel free to do so. Wouldn't you love to have some of those people on your team against the Eggheads (BBC2)?
Lots of experts everyone knows best.

Then I shall be surprised if any come at all this year, given that they make up 25% of the overseas visitors in terms of spend the local hospitality sector will take a hit this year. I’m further surprised that they have not imposed a 14 day quarantine on many other Nations.

It’s tit-for-tat; that requirement will disappear if UK Gov drops it’s requirement.
Like I say, I’m a small business owner and I like many others here are focusing on the local community, not international tourism.
