Spain imposed a quarantine very late but when it did it was on all nations entering. The U.K. only imposed one a week ago - also very late - and needs to maintain it as it is still registering Covid deaths in the hundreds daily and is exporting it, New Zealand is one example. Now the UK govt today said it needs the quarantine “to stop high infection countries bringing it into Britain.” Hollow laugh ...
So it is understandable that a currently low infection country like Spain is maintaining the quarantine on U.K. visitors. However the Spanish quarantine is for those flying in, the land borders after 21 June will not be policed. And thermal temperature gizmos at airports have been shown to be pretty ineffective- many with Covid are asymptomatic and therefore not triggering them. So the whole quarantine issue is a bit of a sham, it only works well Chinese style where everyone coming in has to do 14 days in a designated hotel (and pay for it) and is tested and supervised there by police. Draconian but necessary.
I suspect that Britain being Britain it will suspend using quarantine by 1st July, under pressure from airlines, the tourism industry and other commercial interests. Spain is little different, in just a few days it will be gone.
A second wave in Spain is anticipated in the autumn, according to medical experts.
