Hi all,

I am moving to Garrucha in the next couple of weeks and, not having a car, I will be dependent on buses to get me around. I'm not a pensioner, so will not be entitled to the council discount for buses but wondered if there was a card I could obtain and top up, instead of scrambling for and collecting change for bus fares! I've lived in Córdoba the last 10 years and had one there and found it to be so much easier. Does such a thing exist here and can I get one in Garrucha or nearby?

Thank you so much in advance :)

Not sure if it’s the same in your area, but in Roquetas you can get a discounted bus card which costs around €10 deposit (a one off payment - unless you lose the card) and which you can then load with the amount of Euros you need.  These are usually bought at Tobacconist shops and reduce the price of the bus fare considerably to around half, or less.  As far as I know you don’t need to be a resident and they don’t ask for proof of identity.  So it might be worthwhile asking at one of these shops?

You can buy a 'carte' for 8 euros which will allow you 10 journies and you can ask the bus driver to punch it for two people. The bus driver will refuse to accept anything over 10 euros and if you present a 10 euro note then he will expect you to buy a 'carte' as they dislike changing high denomination notes...you buy the 'carte' on the bus...

Yes, you buy it on the bus. Just ask the driver. We got a 30% added to our card as we loaded it with 50 Euros. You can just top it up when needed.

The Mojacar/Garrucha/Vera buses can be delayed by up to 25minutes either way. My theory is all the fumbling around with small change is the main culprit;-)
