Hi there everyone

We are moving from England to Bedar in a few weeks time, bringing our furniture down in a large Transit van.  I'm getting confused with arranging van insurance though and would really appreciate some advice.  We need the insurance to start asap for last minute running around here in Northants, then we're leaving August 30th to drive down to Bedar, but need another month or so cover because we'll have to use the van until we buy a car...

Should we use a Spanish company (UK companies make it so complicated), if so will they cover the van for the few weeks here in England!  Can anyone please suggest an Insurer there who may be able to help

Much obliged

Sue 💐 (Sooooo excited about our move!!)

I can't answer the detailed questions but unlike many companies/brokers here Linea Directa do van insurance- see https://www.lineadirecta.com/Recursos/recursos/EN/html/other-insurances.html

There's also more info at http://www.spainmadesimple.com/insurance/van/

Hi,

we have our van insured with Aviva and that gives us three months cover within the EU and after the three months the continental cover is just third party.  Hope this helps.  Where in Bedar are you moving to? we are in Los Pinos at the end of this month.

Regards,

Sue/Jim

Cant help on insurance other than Abbeygate, bit more expensive than some others but partner got her UK reg car insured ok.

Beware buying a car here, they are very expensive, year for year your better off buying in the UK, theres places you can buy left hand drive cars in the UK wherein the garage will put it onto Spanish plates, we almost went down that route but partner decided against.

We are permanent residents up the road from you in a place called Urcal, kinda north westish from Huercal Overa and love it for its peace and quiet as well as right now great temps in the 30's.

Theres been any more flies and wasps here this year but I'm sure you'll manage.

Are you pensionable age ? No offence lol. Retirement here is such a great option.

The municipal pool closes end of August in Bedar so unless youre buying a place with a private pool you'll have to sort out alternates. Unless you already know it Bedar is very hilly in places.

Ok thats more than enough off topic stuff, you are right to get excited, as above we love it even tho we've had to wade thru paperwork and beurocracy, we've done the metriculation getting the rhd car onto Spanish plates, temporary medical cards, Residencia etc etc etc lol.

Theres days we dont so much as unlock the front gate or see another neighbour but people here both English and Spanish are so friendly.

Enjoy.

Regards, Ann n Jim
