I use Caixa bank but I’m sure there people on this forum who will give you detailed advice on the pros and cons.

I would advise you to use Wise, formerly TransferWise, for the actual transfer of funds as it is very good, quick, simple to use and gives you a very good rate.

Not sure if you can. There are normally umpteen documents to sign. Think you can have a euro account at N26 or Revolut set up from UK.

We openened a Sabadell account without a Spanish address prior buying here, whilst on holiday in Spain.

Best rates for transfer is via a currency exchange company like Currencies direct,  Wise,  Smart,  Torfx etc

1. We are with Cajamar as it’s the only bank in San José - so a lot will depend on what’s available to you.

What is important to note is that Spanish banks work differently to UK banks - for example if you forget your pin, any bank staff can give it to you, wherever you are in Spain, which would be unthinkable in the UK!!! Plus there are charges that you might not expect - we were once charged 3€ for a statement to be printed - then the last time we weren’t charged anything  however we have now discovered that the cash machine does that for us!

To avoid charges, we have an extra deposit account, which makes our current account free to use - you just need to check what your bank offers.
Again, depending on where you’re based, you may wish to check whether the staff speak English, so you can make sure you’re getting what you need and that you will be able to ask questions in the future

2. We use a transfer company called CurrencyFair to transfer money - we are really happy with them - you just need too keep an eye on the exchange rate and transfer money at a good time.

Good luck 😄😄

I dont know about opening an account in spain whilst living in England. I would be very surprised if you can open an account without being present in person. I am non resident and first opened an account here in 1989. It was simple then only needing a passport. With the money laundering rules now in place it is much more difficult as proof of the source of your funds is now required.

I would suggest that you try Santander as it is a Spanish Bank which has branches in UK.

I had my solicitor open a Cajamar account for me. Next time I was in Albox I had to go into the branch and they helped me put the app on my phone and set it all up for me. Returned a few weeks later to pick up my bank cards. Easy Peasy.
