Hi,

I know I will need a Spanish Bank to complete a purchase of a property but once I have purchased a property and established Utilities etc, can Utilities/Property taxes be paid either by direct debit/Standing Order from an account like Revolut or an Irish Bank or transferred directly to the Utility Company upon receiving a bill.

I don't particularly want a Spanish account but if I have to have one then so be it but I don't need to transfer pensions etc into a Spanish account as all my accounts are Euro accounts so I would only be keeping enough in it to pay Direct Debits/Standing Orders.

Thanks in advance

Hi Jim, Good to see you back on the forum again. You probably would survive without a Spanish bank account but it's like being poor; nothing wrong with it, but it's awkward.

You can have all the utilities invoice you and you'll have a path worn out for paying what's due every month not to mention the queue when you arrive at the bank. The easiest way is to have a Spanish account - a necessary "evil." Like 'em or hate 'em it's the best choice of a bad lot.

Hi Matthew,

I’m travelling to Huercal Overa at the end of the month for the Winter to have a look around areas to see where I might want to live. Still a bit of selling and buying of properties to sort out but as you are aware the market in Ireland is very buoyant at the moment and a house similar to mine sold in a few weeks. I did lose interest with the forum because 90% of the posts were asking about PCR tests.
