We are thinking of buying a 2012 3.0sdv6 range rover sport for comfort on our drive from Ireland to Almeria in the next 2-3 months time. We were wondering what the road tax is likely to cost for the year on a vehicle like this in Almeria region?

Looking forward to getting over 🙂 thanks in advance for any assistance we can receive on this topic and any others we may need help with

Varies as it is set by your local council and is payable to them.

Very cheap but depends on local council where you are based and type of vehicle. Mine was €43 for the year on Peugeot 307cc.

I have a 2005 407 Diesel in Vera, that costs me 97€ per year.

It’s difficult to say because it’s based on engine size, environmental badge, age and Ayuntamiento

Thank you, I was curious about the engine size and age, as we had read about the emissions and engine size being put in a tier system for pricing and that it varies from region to region etc. So it was best to ask you guys as you are in the area we are looking for. 😉

More to the point is the cost of matriculation from Irish to Spanish registration which is the most expensive. Annual road tax is relatively inexpensive.

On a related topic ,  Is it a right hand drive car you are bringing to Spain and if matriculated to register in the Spanish system, will a RHD vehicle be harder or more expensive to get insured in Spain than buying a LHD vehicle in Spain or elsewhere on the continent ?

It is a minefield when importing a vehicle for the unwary. Best to get expert advice. There are offices in HO or Albox that are familiar with the process. Some vehicles are easy to change, (headlight settings for example, others need complete lights replaced). There should in theory be no difference in costs for lhd or rhd for insurance. The below link is worth checking out. Good luck.
