Can anyone recommend an area to rent that would suit us without a car. We would have to be very close to public transport, close to supermarkets, ideally close to the beach.Looking to rent from November-to February.Any suggestions very welcome as we haven't visited this area...looking for a 1-2 bedroom apartment.......thankyou.

Mojacar Playa is the obvious choice in this situation as there are regular buses, you are close to the beach, restaurants, bars and shops. AN alternative is Palomares which is less exensive and although slightly further away from the coast (a 15 minute walk) it has everything else.. And we have a property to rent in that period :)

Garrucha is also another good choice; it has everything and is right on the beach

Short term rentals are €70 a night including bills. Longer term is €400 a month excluding bills (water and electricity).

Hi Malcolm and Anne,
I guess I better expand a bit on my one line recommendation and it is in no way meant to detract from Mojácar.  It comes down very much to what you want / where you'll feel comfortable.  Mojácar, during the summer season is a very lively place, with bars, clubs and chiringuitos right along the front.  Mojácar is "split" into two parts - you have the very picturesque Mojácar pueblo, nestled higher up and overlooking the sea, and then right on the beach, as it were, you have Mojácar playa.  The Playa is where the majority of the bars, clubs, hotels and night life is situated.  Traffic can be a little .... intense ... during the summer in both the peublo and the playa.  If you don´t have a car, that´s not an issue

Garrucha is my own personal favourite - and I stress this is purely my opinion - it is less affected by tourism (although still plenty there) but is more spread out.  Supermarkets are in walking distance of centre of Garrucha, there are busses and a very large market on Friday's.  Garrucha during the summer months also has a night market, also, I believe, on a Friday.  Garrucha is one of the largest (if not the largest) fishing ports on the Southern coast, but it's appearance belies it's heritage, for far from smelling strongly of fish, and being a home to trawlers, it has a very nice beachfront development, cafes, chiringuitos, shops etc.  Not to mention that if you are a fan of fish, then the freshest fish will be found in the restaurants of Garrucha :-D  Garrucha is also famous for it's prawns.

I find Mojácar just a little too ...crowded... for me in summer, so when I visit the seaside, it is definitely Garrucha that I prefer.

Mojácar will be a lot quieter over that time; Garrucha also quietens down, with many of the Chiringuitos closing, as you’d expect.

The Garrucha market goes right throughout the year in a Friday, and you can get a good variety of fresh fruit and vegetables there.  Bus service runs as normal - not sure where to - Vera / Mojácar I’d guess, I’ve seen the busses, and of course the bus stops along the esplanade, but not taken note of where they go.

If you stay relatively central in Garrucha, you have both Lidl and Mercadona within walking distance.  Garrucha as a town also has a lot more to offer in the way of shops; and has a really good large “Chinos” there (Chinese Hyper Market selling it seems everything!!)
