It just looks as if the police and Gaurdia ar not interested about all these uk plated cars running about for years, and we all know that a lot of these cars have not been back to the uk for years so they are not insured or mot, it's just a slap in the face to all of us that stick to the law, als...

...o I pay my taxes how many people over here are living under the radar and have never paid there way, Spain taxes etc it's about time the Spanish goverment sent them back to the uk.

Heard something interesting this morning, again cannot attest to the veracity, BUT a friend who is changing address and so swapping green Residencia card for TIE was told by her solicitor this morning that it has JUST been released / announced that ALL Brit nationals possessing green Residencia cards will be required / compelled to swap for TIE ASAP.

Stay tuned for updates on this late breaking story ....

Not seen anything official, so this could well be yet another misinformed or disingenuous solicitor.  The last from Moncloa was that we definitely WOULDN’T need to change green cards, but there are an awful lot of misinformed and confused oficiales out there ....

I just get cross when they keep changing the rules, been here 12 years and have always done everything by the book, and then out of the blue they tell us we need yet another piece of paper, and every time it cost money, but thanks for the update Dario.

De nada - not certain it was an update, so much as dissemination of what appears to be misinformation!! Still can’t find anything else about this!!

Not really out of the Blue, we all knew there would be changes since the UK government decided to leave the EU, So  this one you cant blame the Spanish government as it wasnt them that decided the UK would leave the EU.

I wasn't aware this TIE was a direct result of Bretix, when it was first muted about 2 years ago, it was said that 'if people with green cards wanted to change to the TIE then they could, it was just an updated version of the green card, i.e. more info, plastic, so (easier to carry about). Nothing was mentioned about Bretix. I see it as nothing more than the Spanish Government having found yet another bit of red tape to top up their coffers.

Well im afraid you was wrongly informed as the Green residencia card would have stayed if there was no Brexit. The TIE is a direct result of UK nationals becoming Third World Nationals as we will no longer be part of the EU. and this is being applied in all EU countries not just Spain. But of course we know those that voted Brexit will always blame everyone but themselves.

It's unbelievable how many people  that voted for brexit, said nothing would change, including a lot of people  that spend a lot of time in Spain, ( in there dreams )

If car is matriculated, it’ll be on Spanish plates ... so post 31/12, having UK plates on a vehicle will be like driving around with a huge target painted on you and a glowing neon sign saying “STOP ME”

To be honest after reading on various forums about UK cars being pulled over etc and impounded if not legal etc, I was petrified of this even thought we could have been legally able to drive a UK registered car within the timeframe or Residencía or 6 months in Spain, whichever the sooner.  Matriculating our car was at the top of our to do list. Had it all done within 3 weeks of moving here, feel so much more relaxed about driving now and not bothered if Guardia want to pull me over or not.  I also read some stories where people in UK registered cars had been encouraged to pull over and then having a distraction theft etc. Totally agree that having a UK plated car is like having a target saying ‘Stop Me’!
