I don't often give advice twice to people who don't listen. You need an NIE number now.

I don’t often contradict you Matthew - no, you don’t - not immediately, not prior to obtaining residence UNLESS you are making a major purchase.

I’ll qualify that - you don’t in Almería province; in fact in Almería, Extranjeria will NOT issue a NIE unless you can prove you need it by way of pre-sales invoice or similar

Yes yes, we’re all very impressed that your daughter-in-law is a solicitor in Spain and only charged you 140€ and that like many others you’ve bought a house, and also like many others, you’re buying a car when you get here.  Jolly good. Very impressed.  Toddle off yourself - don’t let the door hit you on your backside on the way out.

...

1. From memory, if you are paying more than €400 for any object you need an NIE.

2. Debra, Dario tries to help people here and to give him his due he spends much of his time advising for free what others would charge dearly.

Your post

"Yes Dario you said...

"No need to repeat ...i'm sure we all get the dea..

Go toddle off now. Good lad."

is unhelpful.

I don’t know the amount, so I’ll defer to you there - could well be 400€, but that doesn’t apply to rentals or deposits thereof which would total more than that.

I believe it applies to purchase of something tangible, not services or rental.

Still, after 31/12 it’s moot because you’ll get NIE issued when your visa to move to Spain is approved and issued by Embassy. (Unless you are on Irish passport of course, then nothing changes)

And that’s something else I noticed regarding TIE, but I’ll put it in the “collecting from Almería” thread

Well Debra, Once again you've stooped below the gutter to the sewer. Why am I not surprised? But, you must be a member of the Mensa to be so cocky. I note you paid €140 for two NIE cards. My wife and I got ours for under €8.00 each.

Just think of what you could spend with the €124.00 excess that you paid after toddling down to some shop/restaurant. Next time ask Dario or me and be a little less rude.

Well said Matthew, Dario gives great advice to.people. We have been here 3 years today and we got out NIE from the Spanish Embassy is London at a cost of £7.49. We were asked for this when we bought furniture and other large items.

Then that’s why you got it - it’s necessary for major purchase, but not necessary if you are moving over, renting and wanting to open a bank account etc.

Like I said, if you want to make a major purchase, you’ll need a NIE, otherwise not.

Hi

I wonder if this is the same for all areas of Spain. When we first arrived we lived in Comares near Malaga. We couldn't do anything without NIE. Not even rent the house we wanted not open bank account. I have noticed lots of differences between different areas.
