Been to doctors he said I need an operation said September or October how are you informed of where and when this will happen .I have a S1 will I have to pay.

if your S1 has been registered and you are on the health system it will be free and they will either write to you or telephone if they have your number but it will be in Spanish. While in hospital you will be expected to have family to assist you with anything that is needed eg help with food, washing and dressing.

I had a hip operation 11 years ago. Although alot of spanish people do stay with their families during their stay its not obligatory. No way could my husband stay with me as we had animals to feed. Noone even suggested it. I was fed adequately and generally looked after very well. Its a personal choice. I had no other family over here so it wasn't an option.
