Quick question we are flying over to Almeria next week and hiring a car at the airport so we can come and see our new home in Albox. The question is am I better off fetching Euros over to Spain to pay for the car etc or will it be as cheap for me to use my English debit card?
Hi, as far as i am aware, no car hire company accepts cash, and never use a debit card for car hire, as car hire companies are notorious for charging for all sorts of damage tricks when the car is returned, and you will have no comeback on a debit card. Only use a Credit card, as it gives some protection. Never use Goldcar. and check for any damage when you collect the car, both inside and out. Take photo's and report to the reception before leaving.

As Tom says plus the bank charges for conversion plus a fee usually on a debit card would make exchange rate much worse. If you have a credit card with special fee free options for conversion then that is by far the best option. Whatever you end up using (cards) make sure good credit limit or more than one card due to a deposit option held on a card for the hire car.

Excellent advice above. Just on credit cards, if you do use one, pay in euros and never accept an offer by any premises to pay in Sterling. The card company rates will be cheaper (than the rates local premises will use).
