We stay at the Advant hotel  on the N E side of Madrid close to the airport.  Rates are ok and the food is good.............E

Thanks for reply E will look into this , i normally do from Mojacar to Bilbao in one go but it seems a rush way to end holiday .

Hotel Mirasierra, J99 on motorway, dog friendly as well, excellent food and wine. 5 hrs fro Huercal Overa. 3.5 hrs to ferry.

Just 60km south of Madrid is Ocana, and there's some very good cheap accomodation there( I go there as I'm a glider pilot flying at the local aerodromo). Just off the A4 motorway if going to Madrid area via Granada but also the A3 if going via Murcia too.In Madrid I stay out to the west of the city at Ciudad de Imagen area,the NH hotel and the Eurostar ones are good.Currently I'm texting this from the Eurostar hotel which is very nice and only 60 euros a night....the ones I stay in the city are last night 190 euros as apparently there's lots of conferences going on and accomodation is at a premium...

The Ibis Budget south of Madrid city is €50 a night and dog friendly, no extra charge, and the staff are friendly and there is an in-house cafe/restaurant.

Glad you enjoyed, did you walk into the village behind the large emergency parking. Drinks a lot cheaper than hotel
