Hi Veronica,

No, not at the time but I bet, looking back, you can have a laugh about it now. And maybe the water supply is better now - and possibly drinkable, too....?

Possibly there may be a time when the memory fades but there are still problems with Galasa which have escalated recently.

I feel sorry for those who are unaware that the water is often turned off and just want a welcome holiday break but have had no pre-warning from agents! Owners of these rental villas would be aware of possible stoppages but have done nothing to help.

We have now been living here for just over 2 months and cannot drink the water unless we buy bottled.

The upside of course is that we love Turre, the mountains and the beautiful weather. All this and friendly people everywhere, so while we may have water issues the rest is definitely positive!

Best regards

Veronica

Hi Veronica

the water situation here on Agua Nueva has got worse since Galasa took over.  However, you can get clean drinkable water for free at either of the Fuente's in Turre or Mojacar Pueblo.  The one in Turre is across from the town hall and the one in the pueblo is up to the roundabout and then right and right again it is signposted and on your left.  If you are not sure, ask Keith or go online and you will get a map to show you where it is.

ps it is also nicer than the bought water (according to our grandkids that is)

Hi Moira

Yes, we have seen the locals filling bottles from the fuenta in Turre and we understand that the water is purer and comes down from the mountains.

We have yet to follow suit because of the weight of full bottles to carry - eaiser to go to the supermarket and get a trolley!

We are reliant on Galasa for our water this evening because we are waiting for our backup water tank to be changed tomorrow.

Guess what?........this evening the water is off!

Washing up will have to wait and the plants will go thirsty! Good old Galasa eh?

Regards

Veronica

You are allowed to park next to it so not that far to carry  provided you can get a space. We usually manage one or the other of fuentes.  It really is quite nice too after a  couple of hours in the fridge.   We also noticed water off tonight (again).

Hi Moira

It is a bit tricky to find a spot in Turre I agree! Perhaps we should take an empty bottle in the car on the off chance of a space.

Don't know how long the water had been off but we were able to wash up and do a bit of watering after a while.

Just hope our guys fit the new tank and pump today!

We have read all about the financial situation of Galasa and how they haven't even paid their electricity bill! They are running their office on a generator now and owe millions!

Even when they took the water company over they were on the brink of being made bankrupt so what chance does everyone have?

We have been hacking away at a huge clump of cactus in the front garden but are left with a stubborn unshiftable stump and the only way is to put some sort of acid on it so it can't reproduce. It was one of those with the razor-like spikes and was obviously allowed to grow and grow for years.

Having all these palms and cacti do create a lot of work and we seem to often spot something else that needs attention. This hot weather is certainly not gardening weather!

We are off to the market today to get some veggies and new potatoes (if he has some)!

Hope you are both well and looking forward to the weekend

Best regards

Veronica

we noticed the water had come back on later on last night.  still on this morning too.  Don't really know what's happening with Galasa.  They apparently sent some water bills out but then they stopped.  Perhaps they have gone into administration and can't send any more - who knows?  Might be a point to keep a bottle in the car just in case.  The road up by the fuente tends to be quiet mid week if that helps.

know what you mean about the plants....they seem to get stubborn once established.  we can't keep back next doors as quick as it grows and they don't do much gardening if any.  Think we have seen him trim stuff about 3 times in the 18 months we have been here.  maybe one of your builders may know someone if you have a plant/tree that seems to want to stay put.... after all they must have come across this sort of thing when digging foundations etc.  wouldn't hurt to ask I suppose but maybe you have done that already.  I quite like some cacti and palms as they need less looking after and some of the lovely bushes you get in England will grow here but they are like pests and they don't know when to stop - ie honeysuckle and jasmine.  Beautiful to look at and the scent is lovely but they grow faster than you can look after them and they create a mess that finds it way to the pool.

We are probably off down to the market but we usually go down later on.  You may need to get there before 12 tho for the guy who does the Jersey Royals as they seem to be popular.  We like them but aren't really that bothered.  The Spanish new potatoes don't need scraping or peeling and don't disintigrate like some of the ones in UK.  Don't know what it is but they taste quite nice too.  We don't eat a lot of potatoes so only tend to buy a few now and then.  Anyway we may bump into one another when in the market.  Take care, have a lovely day and a relaxing weekend (if you can with all the work you are having done!)

best wishes

Moira

Ivor went to the market for us this morning because it was too hot and we usually take the dog. She can't take the heat so we thought it wise for just one of us to go today (I voted Ivor) lol! He bought some new potatoes so we will eat some tonight.

I baked some old potatoes one night and found they had exploded in the heat! You can imagine the mess in the oven! I realise now it is because of the thin skins so we wrap them in tin foil now if we have them.

Hurray!! Our builders have reconnected the water tank and pump so we are up and running again. They also had to switch off the electricity for a time which meant no water either. So glad they are both back!

It was our builder who suggested acid on the roots to kill it off so we will find the ferreteria in Turre for that after which it will be dug out. It should be easier when the roots have died.....we hope!

I know what you mean about plants taking over which is why I will keep a firm eye on a fig tree and jasmine bush. They are obviously only last year's planting but these can easily grow at an alarming rate and I have seen the size of some fig trees.....frightening!

It doesn't help when neighbours allow things to grow that encroach on other peoples gardens so I understand your frustration.

Our builders are getting along really well now and we will be able to accomodate a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer when it's finished but it will all need tiling first to match the kitchen.

All the nice curtains and lights etc I want have had to take a back seat until we can see daylight and I am having to exercise patience when waiting. Am I the only one to want things done NOW?? haha

I hope you are both coping with this heat! I have been in the whole day but will venture out this evening if it's not too muggy.

Best regards to you both

Veronica
