Hi Moira, firstly I must thank you for the oranges. I look forward to some made into juice....delish! Keith was saying they could be made into marmalade so I may just check out the recipe.

I am sorry to hear you both have colds that you are trying to shake off and if there is anything we can do for you please do ask. i am all for neighbours helping each other and there may still be days when you need to collect things and feel too gross to go out. We do our shopping in Mercadona on a Thursday if you need anything.....just call or mesage us.

A friend of mine back in the UK is suffering badly from some sort of virus and feels like death warmed up. Maybe there is something going around.

Now that you are back here where it's warmer you may start to feel better...I hope so!

In the meantime, please remember we are only next door!

Best regards & thanks again!

Veronica

you are most welcome Veronica.  I made some marmalade with them last year and the year before.  I used the recipe from BBC food internet site and it worked.  Need to cook them a bit longer than stated but apart from that the recipe worked.  It was the 'easy' recipe.  We are feeling more or less ok thanks.  Just can't seem to shake it off.  It's like having a cold without the sneezes but we have had those too!  Thanks for the offer.  If we get too bad and need something we will give you a call.  Same goes for the other way around too.  We also like to help out where we can.  Sunny today  so may get to sit out and soak up a few rays - always works!  Enjoy the oranges and say when you want more.....

Moira x

Hi Moira, thanks for the marmalde tip on BBC's site. If it worked for you that's all I need to know and will definitely look it up!

I hope as the days go by you are both feeling better now you are back here. UK is never very good with the cold, damp weather and the change of temperature often brings on the chills. Of corse all those lovely oranges can give you lots of the vitamin C you need!

We are going to Mercadona on Friday because we forgot that it's closed on Thursday. If we can get you anything do please let us know (and thanks for your offer too)!

Stay warm & get well!

Kind regards

Veronica

Hi Veronica

thanks for the offer-we hope to be feeling well enough to venture out by tomorrow.  Can't think of anything at the moment but if we are not and we need something I will let you know.  Thanks for thinking of us.  Would have sat out yesterday in the sun but that wind was a bit too chilly so staying in and lit the fire instead.  Keeping warm and getting better.

Hi Moira, it's been a very chilly and nasty day today with the rain. If it's similar on Friday and you can't go out just let us know. I don't think it would do you any good unless it is dry air. We stay in as much as we can while it's cold because I feel it terribly. We went out for a meal tonight but came back early and turned the heating up!

Hope you both make some progress with shifting your colds.

Veronica & Ivor

Hi Veronica.  It wasn't nice yesterday was it.  We stayed put too.  We are not too bad now thanks.  Need to go out though as I need to go to opticians to collect my prescription and also collect our post.  Other than that we are going to pick up one or two essentials from Mercadonna and then back home.  We had a nice warm fire going again yesterday afternoon & last night.  Another miserable day today so not venturing to the market just doing what we need to and then back again.  We haven't got 'sniffles' just the fuzzy head type of cold and an occasional cough.  Hope you are all ok too.  This is first winter we have had like this since 2005!  Hope it's the last!

Hi there!

Thank you so much for the Christmas card - we have just collected it from the box. That was nice of you both !

It's a bit grim again out there today and my little dog, Maisie has to be encouraged to go for a wee while it's raining haha!

I expect you will be glad to rid yourselves of your sniffles as head colds are hard to shift. We were quite surprised at how chilly and wet it has been this year as we have heard this is unusual. I don't think we will be going to the beach over Christmas - looks unlikely!

If you are staying here over Christmas perhaps you would like to pop over at some point. We are not huge drinkers but I am sure there will be something on offer other than tea or coffee unless that is your preference.

Just been looking at the marmalde recipes on BBC food and wonder if you used the overnight soaking recipe. I also found a lazy recipe where we chuck in the whole oranges with water and cook until soft. Seems dead easy to me. What say you?

Any tips gratefully received oh master of the marmalade making! hehe

Hi again.  it is grim today isn't it.  Keith has just gone out for some more wood for the fire.  I picked up my prescription at lunchtime and we managed to call into Mercadonna tho I will have to wait til Monday now for our post from the PO Box.  Glad you like your card.

I can't remember exactly which recipe it was but it was one of the 'easy' ones but not the one that said keep the oranges whole (I have done a cake like that and they get blitzed after cooking).  I have just made some using a recipe from a book I have which was back in England last year and it has worked ok - again takes a bit longer to get to the right temp but it worked.  If you want I can photocopy and let you have that.  I have a cooking thermometer you can borrow if you need one.

We aren't going anywhere at Christmas so the drinks idea would be lovely anything would be lovely except sherry as we don't drink that (it's for trifles in our house he he)!  Christmas eve would be nice unless you have anything going on.  Then you could come over to us later on in the week if that's ok with you and Ivor and you can bring Maisie with you too.

ps if you want any clean jam jars I have a few-just let me know.

Hi again, thank you for letting me know about the whole oranges possibly not being the best one to use (thought it looked too easy)!

I am afraid I am one of those sad women who has all the jam pan etc etc which I brought with me so thanks for the offers but I have everything I need including the thermometer and kilners.

Christmas Eve sounds a good idea and don't worry we don't drink sherry here....yuk! (Mind you, it is rather nice in trifles)!

Stay warm!
