Hi we have lived in Turre now for 3 years and while it gets busier in the summer it is not vastly overcrowded.  Most visitors are friends and family of ex pats anyway and come here because it is not so busy.  The annual fiesta is the first week of October and is noisy and busy because it is their main fiesta but you enjoy it more by joining in.  People here are friendly and come from all parts of the UK and there are also people from France, Germany and Holland too.  So a very mixed community.  The local Spanish people are friendly also and always seem to have a smile for you.  Not all speak English, though some try their best.  they appreciate us ex-pats at least trying to speak Spanish too.  There are 2 main supermarkets with a couple of 'corner shops'; plenty of bars and restaurants that suit all tastes.  There are public tennis courts and a boules (petanq) courts too.  So plenty to do and we are only 10 mins away by car from the beaches at Mojacar or Garrucha and 15 mins from Vera playa (the non nudist part).  So, renting is best to start with to give a 'feel' for the area.  We wish you lots of luck and are sure you will not regret coming here.

Hi Sue and Neil

we currently rent on Agua Nueva which is just outside the village itself.  The rental agency we use is called

BLUE SEA VILLAS

Try this company, it is run by a lady called Wendy who is English and very helpful.  Her office is on the playa in Mojacar and believe she has a website.  good luck with finding a rental.

regards

Garrucha has a thriving community but it is mainly a Spanish one with fewer expats around. We have an apartment on Calle Mayor and will also be spending the winter six months in Garrucha in two years time. We find it ideal as it's nicely busy in Winter and ideally placed for the other local towns of Mojacar, Turre, etc.

Hi Phil and Ruth, are there any areas in Garrucha you would not live, advised by the estate agent not to live in certain areas but she didn't explain where that was! Yes I agree, Garrucha is very central to a lot of places. Just need a base now for 2/3 wks in September to look for long term rental. The 'holiday' let's are expensive, any ideas?

kind Regards

I would say that I'd be wary of Palomares, southern Villaricos and northern Vera Playa...the area close to the nuclear accident. I have no qualms about visiting - we like the beaches, markets and restaurants - but I'm not sure I'd want to live there.

Hi Sue & Neil

the reply above regarding Palomares, Villaricos and Vera Playa  need not be taken too literally.  We lived in Palomares for a year and found out about the 'nuclear' accident.  This happened over 50 years ago now and the site is cordoned off and is monitored.  The people of Palomares have been regularly checked by the necessary health authorities since. No-one has been found to have had any malodies or illnesses at all in relation to this accident.  Most of the site was cleared and you can find out more by 'googling' this for all the information to enable you to make your own mind up.  A lot of English people have been scared by this but we know of people who have lived there for much longer than us and they are also fine.  I hope that this info helps.

kind regards

Moira and Keith

Hi, try inland for cheaper pricing and more peace and quiet.

Partner and myself live in a small village called Urcal, we're 7 minutes from the motorway, 12 minutes from Huercal Overa.  Doctors surgery and dispensary, school, bar cafe featured on life in the sun, small well stocked supermarket.

Murcia airport is about 90 minutes away, Almeria 65 minutes away, Alicante roughly 2 hours.

We love it here, nice group of friends and a nice mix of Spanish too.

Some days we dont go beyond the front gate lol.

Mojacar is 40-45 minutes away, we usually go for something to eat once or twice a month, out of season !! Tourist season your all on to get a parking space.

Sunday market in Vilaricos is great as is our own Monday market, wouldnt really wanna live in either Garrucha, Mojacar or Vilaricos tbh.

San Juan dlt is a nice place with quite a lot of new property.

Bottom line is you'll find somewhere you feel both comfortable and "home", everyones requirements are their own and different.

Hi,  We don't really know Garrucha well enough to say where not to live.  We live opposite the police station and about 80 metre's from the beach. We have not found any areas that stand out as undesirable.  We did not get a sea view apartment because in the winter when the wind gets up sand gets everywhere.  Our view is lean over the balcony and see the mountains but we really like the area we are in.  It is a bit quieter than near the port but only a 15 minute walk to it.

Garrucha has a library with computers which can be used and a list of classes etc.  The buses are every half hour to Mojacar playa and Vera they cost 1 euro 20 for each ride.  The market is great and although Lidil is very convenient we try to use the local shops where possible.

I often go out during September October so let us know when you are there and we could meet for a coffee.

Yours Ruth

Hi Ruth

It sounds really nice. I don't know where the Police St is, we're going to have another look this September and hopefully book to rent something for 6 maths.
