Maureen, we should meet and I think you and I could have an intelligent discussion on the brilliance of everyday life and not mention Brexit, Boris, Randy Andy or "Novax" Djokovich (tennis player whatever way he spells his name I don't know). I'll even open a bottle of Gordons (not the Lidl stuff put in a Gordons bottle as the Panama Hat Brigade do).The tonic would be Nordic, not forgetting a fresh lemon, of course. We could have Dario and Sue along too along with Mrs Matt.

That would be nice, if only I was mobile enough, and a strong drinker which I am not. But thanks for the fun thought. Mathew Best wishes to you and the wife.

It has nothing to do with winners or losers - bad or otherwise; it is simply that UK is now outside the single market so import duty will be charged on items from the UK; ordering from Australia, South Africa or any other country without customs agreements with Spain is exactly the same.

I have recently suffered this and it seems the rules are very complex - to say the least.  I had seen in the news that Amazon U.K. were sorting all this out when sending to Spain by collecting at the point of orde an amount which would be equivalent to any import tax that may be needed.  It also seems that the problem particularly arises if the goods you order emanate from outside the EU or the U.K.  So just before Christmas I ordered a toy from Amazon.U.K. as it was not available locally.  This seems to have been a British toy and there were no problems at all.  Then at the end of December I ordered from Amazon.U.K. again, as I couldn’t source the item on Amazon.es or Amazon.de.  This time the item came from China but there was nothing on the Amazon site to warn me of additional charges for a Spanish delivery. I was handed the letter by Correos, advising me that I needed to upload various documents  to adtpostales.  When I finally managed that, I received an email to state that I needed to pay duty of 30,25€ for an item which cost £11.99!  I phoned Amazon customer service to complain about the absence of correct warnings either in their terms and conditions, or when buying, and to say that I would not be paying the duty so the package would be returned to the sender.  They then said they would pay me the amount of the customs duty which they did with 24hours, so I then paid adt and received the parcel.

The slightly bizarre thing is that there are many Chinese vendors on the Amazon.es website, but it is only if they come via the U.K. site that there is a problem.  Whole thing is a mess and on a Brexit note just shows the complications from unravelling years of agreements laws and protocols!

Hello Em, Another strange story to think about. You say you were handed the letter from Correos, was it 2 bits of paper in the envelope like mine. I wanted to take mine to the police to ask if there is a new law to say that every parcel/,packet you receive has to pay a customs import duty, which has been put onto the Correos postmen and women to collect. Another thing I noticed was that my postie having a price to pay on her mobile, after payment she scribbled across the screen and it disappeared., when she occassionally brought me a parcel which needed to have a payment she proccessed it on her mobile and asked me to sign it, but not now. So that to me is suspicious.

Best wishes

Maureen

All totally bizarre- I was handed three envelopes with identical letters (save for their own identification number) relating to the one item!  I had to sign to show I had received them which I presume was because the letter specified a time limit for uploading the documents.  The letter itself implied that I could use the correos app to upload documents, yet this did not have any facility for uploading documents on the occasions I checked.  The adt website was also variable but sometimes failed to function.  I love living in Spain but find their IT systems resemble to sort of clunky problems we used to have in the U.K. 20-30 years ago.  So I often take a deep breath and remind myself of the approach I used to adopt when running an office then!

Seems like the system is in a certain amount of chaos a bit like the problems people were having with extranjería when Brexit first started to bite.

I should also say that problems with Correos are rife in my village. I was back in the U.K. for just over 6months last year and during that time did not receive a single piece of post. The Correos office was completely uninterested and merely said there had been several different posties recently. Matters have not been helped by the fact that the Ayuntamiento changed our address about 10 years ago, to one which is not shown on any street sign and is easily confuse with another which belongs to a holiday let. The only way I have of getting round this is to watch and see if any new postie comes and then introduce myself!  So the idea of using Correos to collect money in my village simply wouldn’t work

Hello Em, Crikey, I feel for you. Spain always used to be several years out of date. I would blame that on the way everything had to be in triplocate. Another reason for everything taking so long is that         what ever they are doing ,as soon as their mobles ring they have to answer them, and then a conversation persues until you just want to give up.

Can you go to your nearest Correos and rent a post box there,. You wouuld  have to go there to pick up your mail, but it might be worhwhile.

I have been insulted a few times at Correos. Once I went with a parcel notice, and after waiting some time I got to the counter and put the notice and my nie card up, the woman rejected that, So I said the bank, and the shops accept it , and it was your government who decided that the new ones did not have to have a photo on it., I had to go home without parcel. Next day I took my passport, nie, and a photo copy of my old card. she hardly looked at them, and rhen looked in the filing cabinets where letters are filed, and then in the small back office, and then came out and said there was nothing there for me.

Then she looked at the notice, and Ah that is why, You live in Aquadulce, you have to go to the Aquadulce correos for your parcel.

I thought well I went to bed in my apartment in Roquetas where I live, now I have moved , to an alternative universe.

I said I live in Av Juan Carlos 1, and the Correos, is in Av Juan Carlos 2.

She argued with me and called to a guy the other side of the crowded room to ask him where my road was, saying it was in Aquadulce , he just pointed to the front door, the correos is also in Av JC1 and she does not even know where she is working. With poeple like that it is no wonder eveything is in chaos.

I wonder where they will send me tomorrow!!!

Maureen

Hi if it's a parcel from the UK it will probably be customs charges my sister sent my driving licence to me from the UK and even thou the parcel or large envelope stated exactly what was in it it took an extra 10 days or so because customs "needed" to check it out and I got a 24€ customs charge, I think it is because it came from the UK (Brexit) and what ever they say Spain only really likes British holiday makers for the cash it brings in
