Hi everyone, I am asking if anyone else has a problem with the changes at Correos.' Since June 2021  they have benn demanding Money for parcels.

I first new about it when my friend was sent a parcel from her daughter for her birthday in June last year. The postie demanded E31. Then a few weeks later some items I had previously ordered from various places started to arrive. The postlady  handed me 2 envelopes, looking a bit shy, which is not like her. I took the letters and put them on the table and opened the white envelope with faint blue Correos across the lower corner

It was not sealed or addressed to me or any one else. Inside 2 pieces of  printer paper, With  a typed message in the center which I had to translate. First said , because you buy items online you have to pay tax. Goto adtpostales to create an account. The next piece said at the bottom, failure to pay, we will take your package, and it will be destroyed..

So I pay for something and vat ,postage to have it sent. Corres now charges me for delivery, even when it is a present from my daughter. I also some one else who had to pay for her xmas present.

I consider this a scam and demanding money blackmail, taking my goods away , stealing, destroying my goods is also a crime.

What do you think? Is this happening to you too?

Regards from a pensioner and tax payer.

Thanks Suet, I have cancelled all repeat orders and now the post is very quite. Myy friend posted a letter for me just after xmas. It was the same sort as I had posted before xmas. When I posted  the first one it cost 70 cents, after xmas 1.40.

About Brexit it is all sour grapes, they are bad losers, and alwas want to be put first. Just my opinion. By the way Suet is a very beautiful cat, and very clever typing replies to questions.

All the best.

It has nothing to do with winners or losers - bad or otherwise; it is simply that UK is now outside the single market so import duty will be charged on items from the UK; ordering from Australia, South Africa or any other country without customs agreements with Spain is exactly the same.

Thanks Dario, if that is the case, why has it taken so long to start it. I have been buying online because I cannot get around very well..  I have paid customs for certain things, but not every item not because of the item or the weight. For instance              a grey bag with some pain relief patches, which weighed next to nothing and the charge was E 27. Even gifts not bought online  by me, but my daughter who bought a few things in the shops in England made up a parcel, and my friends, from Australia., the same. The postdelivery people are not tax collecters The note they gave me was not an afficial letter from Correos as it was unproffessional, no correos head office/ registration etc. I know what their letters look like.

All the best

It used to be that any customs duty applicable was collected at point of import; i.e. if it attracted tax it would be held at point of import until duty was paid. This would of course become quickly unworkable for very small parcels on which small amounts of duty were levied, as they would have to send out thousands of letters and doubtless be left with a large amount of uncollected items.

It appears rules may have changed and customs duty is now collected at point of delivery or collection, with Correos being the agency delegated to handle it.

Not only do they charge for tax, I recently had to pay over 8 euros to collect mail forwarded from home.  That is a bit unfair, and it took over a month to arrive!,

Hi Frande, Crikey, that is ridiculous. They seem to be getting into it now, and I thank all for their comments. It must be a good scam, as people just take it for granted that it is because of Brexit, but I do not believe it. because of the way my postlady handed me the envelope with 2 peices of paper with what I call notes. Looks like someone is out of work and decided to start typing these notes, and the backroom posties where dragged in to hand them out to make out it is ok.

All the best Frande

Hi Mathew, Feelings are still intact. We all have our own opinions, and I respect that.
