Visited Almeria yesterday and got our residensia. Took 10 minutes!

NIE, Padron, SI (or health insurance policy), proof of income (UK State Pension letter must be translated to Spanish), copy of bank statements confirming deposits from UK if not paid directly to Spanish bank account, copy of passport plus take originals. Get online cita (booking) time and day.

Don't expect a smile - just sit there and let them go through their process......

Hi 'Smudge'

We have an apartment in Roquetas and love it there.  Are waiting to sell our house in Valencia so we can move down there lock stock and barrel. We have been using Schedia for our internet in Roquetas and have had no problems, no need for a landline. We also use it for our internet based tv box. They are situated at Avenida de Roquetas de Mar, 295 on the first floor.

Hope you enjoy your retirement in Roquetas

Kate

Hi all. Now that we're actually here, thought perhaps we should make ourselves known :-) We have just moved to Roquetas from the UK, having holidayed here many times and currently renting an apartment in the urbanization. I speak a little Spanish, but find it quite hard understanding t...

...he rapid-fire Andalusian version that is being fired at me - it'll get easier, I know. Managing to cotton on to enough so far to manage ok. My husband isn't so hot on the language, but can make himself understood with the basics mostly.

We have 2 current priorities - getting online and applying for residencia! However, we are very confused about the actual process for residency as everyone seems to suggest doing things in a different order. We have health care via s1 forms and already have a spanish bank account. Also have a rental contract obviously. So what comes first? Do we need to get an NIE no first, or does that come with residencia? Do we have to get ourselves on the padron to become resident, or do we need the residencia to get on the padron? Everywhere I look I get different answers! If anyone, who has been through the whole process recently, can point us in the right direction we'd be very grateful.

The internet thingy is almost as confusing. Because of the situation of our apartment (a couple of taller blocks nearby cause problems with various signals) it looks as though we will have to go with fibre-optic - which would be my preference anyway. Is it possible to have an internet only connection or do they all come with line-rental even though we don't need a land-line? Movistar has been suggested to us, but I've also had a look at MasMovil. Again, if anyone can point us in the right direction......we'll be using an internet based TV service, so the speed needs to be reasonably good.

So sorry for the long rambling post - we knew this wouldn't be straightforward from doing quite a bit of research before we came out here, but we're in danger of tying ourselves in knots trying to figure it all out.

Many thanks in advance, Jane

Hi and welcome ,

We too are new arrivals and we're not sure about NIE numbers etc.

We used the services of the wonderful Astrid from Victoria Services who took the pain away of the Spanish bureaucracy. it cost is around €150 but it was money well spent. She was able to apply and get the NIE numbers and also helped us with the language barrier in other areas such as opening a bank account, fuel bill etc.

As for the tv and internet, we have our internet from Santel. It cost € 70 for the modem, installation etc and it then costs €20 month for 20 mb, from that we have Sky for which we pay only €120 per annum after an initial installation cost of €130. There people about town who will let you know exactly what you can get and where to get it from.

We have stayed in Mar y Sal apts a couple of times and they are great. We're looking at an apt. for sale close by and wonder if you could recommend someone to help us through with the purchase. We have read that it's not a good idea to use the estate agents solicitors!
