Our problem isn’t the neighbors , it’s a constant banging noise that is coming from inside the building . It only happens when the wind gets up , which is quite regular . It appears to be in the ventilation system . Apart from that the place is fantastic . Any help would be much appreciated.👍👍

Are you staying at the Envia Golf by any chance?

We don't have this problem at all in our apartment by Roquetas port. Sound levels do depend on the type of construction.  Where we have an apartment the noisiest it gets is when there are children in the pool area during July and August  but nothing to spoil our siesta perhaps as we are on the top floor.  I've been in other apartments in many places in Spain and can't say I've had a noise problem.  When I lived in Scotland I certainly did have an issue over loud music from a bloke in the flat below mine so I can understand how you feel.

Yes Ibis in Bilboa is a nightmare! Although I must say when I found some silverfish in the shower our 2 night stay suddenly cost nothing!

Consider taking out short-term rentals in places that interest you, using websites like Airbnb, Hostwise, Uniplace, Remax, Owners Direct etc.  Read all the reviews.  That'll give you a good idea of the good and bad bits of where you would like to live.  Read the rules of the places you are looking at to check on regulations regarding noise and whether noisy pets (or any pets) are allowed.

All rental properties must have a complaints book, and you should write in your complaints (in English or Spanish) which will be forwarded to the town hall.

You should also read customer comments on sites like TripAdvisor whenever these are available for the property you are considering.

For everybody's benefit, name and shame any locations you find that are excessively noisy.

With tiled floors and people moving their chairs you hear noise in most apartments, high heels. One of my friends tells me that Spanish have large dogs barking all day etc in an apartment in Mojacar where he has one. I have an inland detached place and an apartment on the coast, detached Villa in 1.25 acres is much quieter! When i first purchased it I could not sleep as it was too quiet, I was used to car alarms going off, cars driving past my UK house window. If you had a door squeak you would think what is that, I got used to the quiet in the end and I get the most revitalising rest ever when there. You can see all the stars there, mountains in the distance, last year we saw woodpeckers in the garden, Golden Oriole and more.  I know 95% want to be in a concrete jungle and I am in the minority.

In my apartment I could hear some noise, I knew it was not the person above as I had the keys to his apartment at the time and it was empty. It was not the house next door, but the property next to that. You just need to find a way to relax as it sounds like you are ready to explode, been there in the UK, can get quite messy!

I know it's an old thread but can I suggest industrial in ear plugs, they drop out in  the night, so hearing an alarm is no issue or if you're too worried, a vibrating alarm on fit bit or similar works too.  I lived underneath a guy who played drum.and base at any given time, i still hate him.20 years on...

You could also get blue tooth wireless headphones for smart TV's, althoughnot ideal, hopefully the sound bar is working well.
