Hi,

My wife and I are planning to drive to Roquetas in mid January 22 , coming through France.

Is there likely to be any travel/weather problems driving over the mountains into Spain?

Thanks,

Ian

Would suggest to change to winter tyres if you plan to cross the pyrenees. Have 'tyresocks' or chains as backup.  Alternative stick to the coastal roads if you prefer to stick to summer tyres.

If your route is via the Mediterranean coast you will have no problems.  If you were thinking if travelling via Irún- Vitoria - Burgos - Madrid then to the south or south east, there could be snow until you get to Madrid.  Remember, that Madrid is the highest capital in Europe and north of Madrid can experience very severe winter weather.   You can also get stuck in snow on the motorway after Granada at the highest point, which is known as la Puerta de la Mora.  Sometimes they divert the traffic through Iznalloz if there is a lot of snow, which is an added delay.

Once in January I travelled back from Paris through central France where there were drifts of snow, but the Mediterranean Motorway to Almería was absolutely fine.
