Hi, I have another question regarding relocation to Spain.

I have as I have a good car which I do not wish to get rid of, I would like to drive it in Spain. Does anyone have any expirience with doing so? I wonder about taxes, and insurance and so on. I  do not want to change plates to Spanish yet, just in case something goes wrong with my job. I am thinking after July I should be certain if I will stay, and therfore I could register my car  fully then. Is the whole process worth it?

Thank you in advance

after the Brexit exit date at the end of the year if you are driving a UK registered car expect to be stopped by the police to check how long you are in the country for and don't exceed the 90 day rules.  if you are here permanently after that date you should not be driving a UK registered vehicle.  if the car is worth it you should matriculate it as soon as you can but you need to change the headlights unless they are the ones that adapt, you need to have it ITV'D then pay the fees for the paperwork to be actioned.  you can try to do this yourself but it is easier if you use the services of a good Gestor.  you'll also need to change your driving licence as well.

It would depend on the age and emissions of your car. Although my car is diesel, there was no tax to pay as the emissions are low, so it was just an ITV test and paperwork fees. My car was french, so no need for headlights to be done. Unless your car is fairly new, the problem will be getting a Certificate of Conformity that will be acceptable.

Hi MarkArc.

Later on you'll find it virtually impossible to sell an ex-UK car in Spain.

You'll have to reverse the whole Spanish registration and modification processes and try sell it in the UK, Ireland or Malta (or perhaps some of the ex-commonwealth countries which still drive on the left). I imagine this would be a huge bother.

It would be significantly cheaper buy a car in, say, Germany or France and selling your car in the UK. Belgium and Holland are cheapest for diesel cars.

You would still have to pay to import it from other European countries, depending on its emiss

You'll need to officially import the car to Spain, whether it's UK or EU.

However the UK car will need significant modifications for use in Spain. It would be almost impossible to sell in Spain.

It would be an awful lot easier to sell or trade in an ex-Belgian car when the time comes.

Thanks, I i thought you have to pay the import tax regardless ehuxh country it comes from. I have and slk 200 and cost of this car in Spain is huge, and I even in Germany. I only paid 3k for it so do not want to sell it and get cheap one. 🙈So I am really thorn... It is a 2006 model so lights might be an issue
