We have owned/kept a car at our holiday home since 2010. Family use the car also when they are there. Never had a problem with insurance. Have always used Abbeygate, office is in Malaga, insurance with them has always covered any driver (you can put named drivers on aswell if you want), breakdown and recovery. There are English speaking staff in the office and when ever we have been unfortunate enough to have to contact breakdown, the staff were also English-speaking. They no longer use Gibralter based insurance policies following the UK leaving the EU. Just like your UK insurance, get plenty of quotes and make your choice from there.

I wouldn't use Abbeygate,my car was written off and they offered me a pittance for it.I refused their offer and eventually got 3,000 euros more in a latter settlement....someone naive and not savvy enough would probably have taken the first offer...Neither would I use the likes of Ibex who are cheats and liars.I was paying something like 3000 euros a year to insure my Mustang.My friend seriously damaged it and they refused to pay for repair It cost me £15,000 of my own money. I found out that in Spain it is the car that is insured rather than the driver but they got  out of that one by saying 1 the Mustang was exempt from that as it a rare car and 2 as they are based in Gibraltar they come under UK insurance rules and not the ones here in Spain ☹️☹️☹️ ..
