Televamos.  Jenny is their driver and speaks extremely good English, German,

Portuguese and of course Spanish.  They are based in Roquetas de Mar and she also says she picks up from Granada, and of course Almeria.

Have contacted them. It works out the same price as hiring a car. Might as well be chauffeur driven than drive myself.

Thanks.

The original post asked about car hire to Roquetas from Malaga although the heading was a journey from Alicante - so a bit puzzling. Why anyone would take a taxi at great expense when there is a Malaga-Almeria express bus is beyond me.

Look up www.blablacar.es when you want something approaching door-to-door transport.  It's something like taking a taxi to your destination, but much cheaper.   To get the English version of the website, click EN or the Union Jack.

You will be linked up with someone travelling in your general direction and you pay a contribution towards the cost of the journey.  Typically the cost compares to taking a similar journey by public transport.

Blablacar will have verified the driver and car for valid driving licence and appropriate insurance.  Note the driver is permitted to insist on certain restrictions, such as no smoking, no pets, no small children, or (for example) female passengers only because the driver is female. Any such restrictions (if any) are clearly indicated on the booking form.

General advice about renting a car in the EU (and much of the world).  Three tips to save some money.

If the car is damaged, lost or stolen you are liable for (typically) up to the first €2,500, called the excess.  The rental company will wish to charge you (typically) €15-€25 per day extra so that you do not have to have to pay the excess.  That can work out at €700+ for 30 days rental.  This charge doesn't cover "careless" damage, such as losing keys, damage to underside by driving on bad roads, or using petrol to refuel a diesel car.

  1. If your credit card can take a (temporary) hit of up to €2,500, you can take out Car Hire Excess Insurance cover for around €50 for a year in the EU.  If the rented car is damaged, lost or stolen during the rental period, you have to take the hit, then send the bill for the excess to the insurance company which will reimburse you.
  2. The second suggestion is to always take the full-full fuel option.  Receive the car full of fuel, and return it full.  Car hire companies make a charge of up to €50 (on top of the cost of the fuel) so one of their people can re-fill the car.  The company will "block" your credit card (ie temporarily reduce your credit limit) for the price of the fuel in the tank, and then "unblock" the amount when the car is returned full.
  3. Thirdly, use a car hire "aggregator" such as Rentalcars.com or Carjet.com to book and pay for your car.  You plug in your requirements, such as dates, location, type of vehicle, etc., and choose.  They will place your business at whichever supplier offers the best deal that matches your requirements.  Almost all have a phone number or chat line where you can indicate any special needs or have any questions answered.
