Need some advice please, I have registered with my local Spanish health centre and had a medical there, the doctor has asked for my medical records to be sent to him.

When I leaving the UK last year I asked my local GP surgery for my medical records to take to Spain but was told they were not allowed to let them leave the UK.

Has anyone else encountered this and what is the process to obtaining MY records for MY new Spanish medical practice.

I find it hard to believe I am not allowed to share them with my new doctor.

cheers, then they wonder why we leave blighty!!

Hi

Can I enquire if you are under treatment by one or more NHS Consultants?

Hi

Your UK medical records are owned by the NHS therefore you have no right to them, but you have a right to the information contained in them. That means you are entitled to a copy of your notes but not the original notes.

Hope that helps

We were able to get a copy of our medical records from our UK GP practice with no problems.

We obtained summaries (6 pages) of our medical records from our GPs before leaving the UK.

It’s worth reading through any medical records you obtain before handing them over at the Spanish medical practice you register with, as you can spot errors in dates and there were also significant omissions in our summaries.

It’s also best to retain a copy yourself for reference. It might be a good idea to get them translated into Spanish.

I needed info from my practice in the UK regarding why I was taking the medication I needed, The practice manager was really helpful and emailed them to me so I could give them to my new Doctor here I  Spain.

We were at a surgery in Derbyshire and we were able to buy our records for 25 pounds each. We had a Spanish summary done and hold the records ourselves.

I suggest you ask to buy them. You have the right to them.
