I’m sure this must of been asked before but unfortunately must of missed it.I am a 74 year old English type 1 diabetic lady on my own.I have enough medicine and insulin to last till I’m due to return to England on the 27th May on Brittany ferries.I am very worried if the ferry is cancelled how I’m going to get my medication.Would be so grateful for any advice.

I would be nearly sure you can buy it over the counter without a prescription. Other than that you could ring your doctors practise and ask them if they could send you a repeat prescription or if someone else picked it up and send it to you.
Firstly I would go to the farmacia and speak to them to see your mind.

The private doctor located on the 2nd floor of the commercial centre in Mojacar will provide you with a prescription. However he will need to examine you before providing the prescription.
Cost will be around 40-50 Euros
My husband got his medication for high blood pressure by showing the packet to the staff in the local farmacia without any problems

Hi Jacqueline, I'm type2 diabetic and have about two weeks supply of medication left (how much longer I'm going to be here I don't know). So I took a list of my medication to the pharmacy in Turre. I was told to return after 18.00 and I could collect it all. Every thing over the counter with no prescription! I only went in to enquire, but thought I might as well get it whilst I was there. I paid €77, the expensive item being my insulin at €50 for 5 X 3ml. So if you know what you need you can buy it over the counter without seeing a doctor. I also understand I can claim this money back once I'm back in the UK. Hope this helps.

Sorry Jacqueline, that was long winded. Just go to a chemist tell them what you need and can you buy it over the counter. If you can, ask availability then purchase as and when needed.

I'm type 2 Diabetic so have a similar problem to you.
I brought my UK prescription with me at the start of my long term stay. Due to the lock down my 3 months repeat meds from the UK are now exhausted. I asked at my local pharmacy (in Vera Playa) if they would fill my prescription and they indicated (quite abruptly) that they would not fill it without a spanish prescription. However I found another pharmacy in Mojacar that were extremely accommodating and helpful and who were quite happy to supply all of my needs.
I think I was fortunate not to meet up with the local police between Garrucha and Mojacar ! I am now down to only three weeks supply so I am hoping that some restrictions may be lifted to allow me to revisit the pharmacy !
I believe it is down to individual pharmacies how they respond to your request - so if one pharmacy will not cooperate I suggest you find an alternative.! Good luck

Hi Mike, I have used a few chemists along Mojacar playa in the past and found them very helpful. Are you on tablets or insulin to control your diabetes?
