Hi All My husband and I will be driving from Santander to Mojacar on the 1st of March next year our ferry will be arriving about 3pm. We are travelling with our dog so we are looking to stop overnight somewhere south of Madrid then drive the rest of the way the next day. We are looking for recommendations for clean, dog friendly, simple hotel/motel for that night. Also any tips on route etc for the drive. Thanks in advance x

Totally agree that this is an excellent place to stay. We had three dogs with us and were given a large and very nice room at a very good rate - we will be staying here for our future return to uk trips. The food in cafe/restaurant was also very good.

You should note however that it is 45 minutes North of Madrid on theA1 which makes it about 3 hours from Santander but a very comfortable 5 hours run to Almeria.

As a bonus for dog owners there is an emergency parking area right next door to the hotel where you can throw a ball etc to give you pet some exercise before you set off on your journey. There is also a petrol station right next door to the hotel which is located just off the motorway junction.

We stay at  La Lobera, 63, Las Rozasde valdearroyo, (34942773164), you will find them online under places to stay in Burgos. They are very nice and I am sure they have some rooms for dogs, good exercise areas by the lake! Cars are safe in their grounds. It is  more expensive nearer Madrid, and easier to do one long run the next day! By the time you get off the ferry and start driving this is far enough!

Hi,

We stay at Hotel Camponile in Alcala De Henares, halfway from Santander to Mojacar. It is east of Madrid and avoids lots of traffic near the city. Dogs ok and cost about 58euros for the room. good walking areas around hotel, plus restaurants etc. Staff very helpful and English spoken. tel. 0034918025612. More details on line. Good luck!

We stayed at a lovely hotel just outside (on the outskirts of) Toledo.  Super restaurant and brilliant rooms.  Dog was a few euros extra.  Got it through booking.com  Lovely place - about half way - lots of grounds to let doggies let off steam too

I stay in Ocana, which is about 60 kilometres south of Madrid just off the A4....Good hotels there and from there you can either go down to Granada then Almeria etc on said autovia or slightly faster via Albacete on the A3....
