We are buying a villa in Arboleas and need a bank account .As I will need a bankers draft to complete the purchase I'm looking for a bank with sensible costs both for a draft and for use of the account

Any advice would be appreciated

We use Banco Sabadell in Vera as they speak good English, are friendly and are used to dealing with the expat community. I'm not sure how their charges compare with other banks in the area though. We didn't get involved in opening our bank account, arranging bank drafts and all the other aspects of the process, that was all done by our lawyer at Mundi Abogados to whom we had given Power of Attorney and it made the process so much easier. We did have to go to the branch of Banco Sabdell to sign the account opening papers and collect bank cards but that was it. You might want to talk to your lawyer about whether they can arrange the bank account and bankers draft for you.

We are with La Caixa and were from the beginning. The fees to transfer £ from UK.to € here were exorbitant. If we were doing it over we would open an account with 100€'then use one of the transfer agencies.like  GCEN to transfer the lump sum. So no bank charges to receive the funds. When we purchased a. 4x4 here.we obtained a 25K cashier's cheque and it cost 20€.

I would really consider the numerous transfer agencies as Banks are Banks &'Spanish Banks are particularly grasping and I speak from homes in Oz & India.

If.any of.your.pension singly are 1000€ or more, not pensions in.total, then Banco Popular.

Best if.luck,

Dr./Colonel Bob and Sandra

Thank you for your kind reply. Yes I will transfer using Caxtonfx as Ive used them before just want a bank to write me a cashier cheque without them stealing the family silver. Yes I think all banks as gangsters. This is based on past experience. Once again thank you
