Could anyone please advise of the best places to purchase a desktop computer and a cordless drill? Anywhere between Almeria and Vera. Thanks.

Hi

What configuration are you looking for in a  desktop?

A- Gaming with a powerful chips set CPU -GPU

B- How much RAM?

C- Strorage- SSD, HDD, or Hybrid?

D- Peripherals- Monitor UHD and size 19'' 21''?  keyboard/ mouse- wired wireless? Speakers

E- most important budget that can determine the specs for the above

Cordless Drill

A- budget

B- what do you need it for?

Be eaasier to give advise if you can answer your query then

I basically need something that will enable me to work when I'm over here (emails, reports, contracts etc). Need Microsoft Office and a decent speeds. Would prefer a Dewalt or Makita drill. I need it to hang items from the walls in our house.

So based on what you want , a machine for office type work, you could get a laptop or Chromebook relatively cheaply under 400€. A desktop will propbally run you more. Try second hand sites like Facebook for sale if you  really a desktop  want and do not mind an older machine. Just make sure that you can run the verison of Office you buy or already have.

If you want to buy new and can get to Alméria then for both your drill and computer you can go to Media Markt for your comp and Leroy Merlin for the drill.

Both are in the same shopping complex  Centro Comercial Torrecárdenas and both will have a selection of each of what you want.

You can chose based on your budget.

I’d recommend trying backmarket.es for reconditioned laptops that come with a two year guarantee; failing finding anything you like, there’s Media Markt who also do online orders.  I just bought myself a Lenovo Windows 11 laptop with 8gb RAM and a 500GB SSD for 380€, delivered to me (as an aside I also use LibreOffice which looks and acts JUST like MS Office … except it isn’t slow and laggy, it doesn’t crash or freeze, it’s very regularly updated … and it’s FREEEEEE - bloody brilliant, have been using it for around 8 years now - libreoffice.org if you’re interested)

For a drill … I do occasional work around the house and purchased a good old Lidl Parkside 20v cordless drill with hammer capability - takes SDS bits and again is brilliant.  If I was a tradesman, sure I’d go big name brand as I’d be using it every day … but for the bit of DIY I do - it’s more than ample.  Much cheaper than big name brand, and again available online from Lidl online.

That's great, thank you.  So is Libreoffice compatible with Microsoft Office? I need to send Excel and Word documents for work.

YES - it can open and edit Microsoft Documents and can save in Microsoft Office .DOC / .DOCX / .XLS / .XLSX format.  It is a full-featured Microsoft Office replacement with its own Publisher, DataBase program etc etc  - all compatible with Microsoft Office

Totally agree with Dario re the drill. I bought one of these from Lidl about 4 years ago. It has had some hard work to do since I bought it and you can now get a 4ah battery as well. When you pick it up it feels heavy like a quality piece of kit, very much like the Bosch I previously owned but big difference is extra batteries only cost about €20 each.
