Fishing .
Hi, anyone know of fishing lakes in Almeria province, private or public and the rules and regulations ?
Hi Tara
Fresh water fishing in Andalucia is difficult. To obtain a fresh water licence you need to take a two day full time course and then pass an exam all in Spanish. Typically the courses and exams are run only twice a year in January and February or March.
You cannot buy a licence from another autonomous region as they’re not transferable.
Easiest fishing licence in Andalucia is for beach, you need copy of NIE, residencia or passport and take it to your local fishing shop. For about Eur20 you can get a 2 year licence.
If you really want freshwater then I suggest that you look at Murcia - licence is easy docs plus fee and I think you can apply and download online. I understand that there are some good fresh water lakes but have no personal experience. If you look on some of the Murcia forums there are recommendations.
If you are prepared to travel I can recommend trout fishing in the Pyrenees, there are numerous rivers where farmed trout are released regularly and also some “wild” rivers as well. The locals tend to be secretive about these locations but if you’re prepared to hike up mountains etc you can find spots. Again either Cataluña or Aragon licence easy application and download online, you then need to buy a permit for the location that you want to fish. Options are for catch and release or catch and keep subject to size restrictions, about Eur15 per day for up to five fish to go.
If you are looking for large fish then The river Ebro is famous for “imported” Wels Catfish upto 100kg+, again internet search will find fishing companies.
I was planning to try and take the Andalusia course and exams this year but got stuck in UK so not able to do so. I have seen some great looking trout streams between Granada and Antequera, maybe next year!
