hi,this is Phil, cartegena is about 2and half hours round trip not to far,why don't you book an overnight stay ( not expensive )then you can take your time and look at some other nearby areas,cheers, enjoy your holiday.

Not been myself (keep meaning to) but I am told Brisas Chiringuito is good. On the beach near to Villaricos.
