Hi all,

Many thanks to all that have given a heads up re IDP and renting from  Goldcar.

Have booked a rental through Discover****  for arrival at Almeria airport. Goldcar have been given rental as cheapest.

Many thanks to users on this site who have brought to my attention that Goldcar demand an IDP as part of rental agreement. Even though government website clearly states that this is NOT required.

Many thanks again to all on this website for highlighting this specific problem with this specific company. If I had not read posts I would not have looked into small print and found this stipulation hidden away in rental agreement and thus, when arriving found that all onward travel plans , which were car dependent , like many other posters were completely scuppered.

I will be closely checking car providers in future. Any guesses who I won’t be going with?

For others an IDP is easy to obtain at any main post office in UK and costs £5.50. and is valid for 1 year.  Passport sized photo also required

All the best to everyone,

Mark

Arrived in Murcia yesterday. Picked up car from Goldcar as usual. Wasn’t asked for IDP, although I have one just in case, and had no issues with using own insurance and leaving deposit on credit card. I know some people complain about Goldcar but in the 5 years we have been using them have never had a problem.
